Flea Shampoo on A Small dog

We have a 7mo. old Tiny Toy Chihuahua who
weighs approx.
3-3.5 pounds on average. We were told by a
vet that if
he is given a bath with flea shampoo that it will
damage
his muscles and is deadly to him, I contacted
2 other
veterinarians that we use for other animals
and they
said they had never heard of such a thing. Is
this in
fact true, I have given our dog numerous baths
over the
summer to rid him of fleas the last one being
about 2
weeks ago. Thanks
