Canine puncture wound-unknowndepth&cause

Sent to Dog Experts May 09 09:02 PM

I own a Dachshund approx. 5 years old, She attempted to go underneath our outdoor fence today which is a wire coated fence. We noticed today that she had a puncture wound around her upper shoulder (if standing above her, it is located a little toward the right side of her back just below her shoulder. We are not sure the depth, it is approx. a nail size width puncture would, the fence did not appear to have any links sticking out that would cause it. She was outside the majority of the day. In country so there are gardner snakes, mice, etc. but there is only one puncture mark, What necessary services should I seek?

Mcnevin, Hi there. Sorry to hear about the pup. I am a fellow pet owner, not a vet. dr..
I would simply watch the dog for the next couple of days. Watch for infection at wound site, i.e. swelling, fever, drainage or a fowl smell are good to look out for.
Make sure your dog continues to eat and drink plenty of water. My animals tend to slow these things down when sick.
Good Luck.
