My yorkie had a small spot on his back that he was scratching and it was bleeding; later the bleeding stopped, but he lay around like he wasn''t feeling well. I was out of town and the person keeping him took his temp which was 102, and watched him last night since the vet''s office was closed. this morning his temp was down but the dog started making strange noises and then died. What could have caused this?

We live in the nashville, tn suburbs, so I don't think it would be a snakebite. The other two I don't know. The friend who was watching him said the spot was about the size of a tick and looked like skin had been torn off. It oozed for a while (blood) before stopping, according to him. I am still out of town.

If this dog was healthy and there was no predisposing condition AND you think that the timing of the appearance of the spot it to close to death to be co-incidental, I would have to say some type of spider bite that was toxic.
I am so sorry for you loss. My heart is honestly with you.
