Soap in dog's eye

Sent to Dog Experts July 17 03:59 PM

My dog got soap in his eye while I was bathing him yesterday. I rinsed it out as best I could when it happened. Today his eye is swollen and is squinting real bad. It was completely closed and swollen this morning, but we washed it out and it's looking better. Should we keep washing it out with water? How often should we be washing it without irritating it? Is there something better to use than water?
Thank you! Darcie

Try rinsing it with sterile saline instead of plain water. That is more like natural tears and should not cause any irritation.
If the eye is still having a problem tomorrow you should see the vet in can an infection has started and he needs antibiotic ointment or eye drops.
Hope this helps you!
