My Dog has had runny stools for 3 days now. He has vomited once. We stopped feeding him dog food and have been feeding him plain chicken and rice.He is also not drinking much water. Could he be flu-ish? Can I do anything else for him? He otherwise seems fine.

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: Titus is about 6 years old. He's a large dog approx. 100 lbs. He does not seem better on the chicken and rice, it's about the same. Prior to getting sick he was eating pedigree large breed dog foor.

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: This bag is fresh. The previous bag was not only a different brand ( generic) but we used it to the bottom of the bag. He does not go to the dog park and does not typically chew non food items. He does play with a tennis ball that he has pretty much destroyed. I'm really worried that he could dehydrate.

Dear friend,

sometimes mold grows on the botttom of a bag of food that you would not notice and it could cause these symptoms. There is also a viral strain of dog flu going around.

You can give Titus a teaspoon of pepto bismal to settle his stomach. However you are right, he could dehydrate if this does not stop.Get some plain pedialye and give it to him instead of his water.

Add much more cooked white rice to the chicken recipe.Make sure you drain off all the fat and do not add any seasoning except a pinch of salt and sugar to replace his electrolytes.

If you do not see improvement as a result of the pepto, the pedialyte and the diet - Titus will need to see the vet first thing in the morning.

Please write back and let me know how Titus isdoing.

If you have any more questions please do not hesitate to ask. I will be happy to help in any way possible.

very sincerely,

Terri
