My dog came home with what appeared to be a bite wound or b.b. pellet , not sure, the wound is large opening about 1" long and 1/4" wide, He had a few other scabs around the area but they had not cut. bobwire fencing?,maybe. He chases squirrells, rabbits, rats, bull mastiff/rott mix. 10 yrs. 105 lbs. I took him swimming ,he swam laps around the pool for an hour, scab came off but just wouldnt drain, even when squeezed. he eats and drinks but after 9 days now its grown to HUGE size ,equal to 2 grapefruits if they were side by side. He is very uncomfortable. My husbund stopped by the vet last weekend when it was only 4-5 days old , and it was sat he said come back mon. 250-600 price. he just got blood work done 1 month ago at another vet and it looked real good they said.I had him om 500 mil. of pennicillin every 12 hrs but after5-7 days it still grew. so i stopped it. I have a new scapel, iodine ,saline, gauze lanacane, oragel, buffered asperian. should I lance it?

Your boy REALLY needs to be seen by a vet. DO NOT try to lance this yourself. It sounds as though one of two things is going on here. The first and most obvious is infection. I am leaning more towards the second. He is bleeding somewhere internally. What you are seeing may actually be blood building up under the skin. We went through the same thing when a hunter shot oneof my Danes. The bullet nicked an artery and caused a cantaloupe size area under the skin that was pure blood. This may or may not require surgery to correct. A simple aspiration of the area can tell you whether it is infection or blood causing the swelling.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need further information.
