My german shepard mix breed has been having problems with bloodshot eyes for about 6 months now. We had her evaluated in the spring and nothing showed up. Now, today I have noticed what looks like lesions on both eyes--on the outer portion of both eyeballs. She doesn't appear too uncomfortable, she has been occasionally rubbing them. The eyes seem somewhat discolored and glossy. We couldn't get an appt. with a vet until monday afternoon. What are the possible causes? We are very worried about what may happen in the next few days. Is there anything we czn do in the meantime?

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: When we took her to the Vet for the red eyes she ran some blood tests--I think a chemistry and blood counts which came back normal. Before that we had given her a course of erythromycin ointment which didn't help. She thought it was some type of environmental allergy or something.
Only yesterday did I notice these round bumps almost on her eyes. They look cloudy--almost like cataracts would look but they are the same on both eyes and she's only 3 years old!

Ok, shepards are prone to a problem called Pannus or chronic superficial keratitis. It really sounds like this is what your dog has. Here is a website with pictures so you can see if it looks like this problem. Eye Care for Animals

There are several therapies that help and so you can read more about what your options are.
