MY dog ( German Sheperd, Rottwiler mix ) has very watery bowels, seem to be thirsty but when drinks he cannoy keep it down. He throws the water back up and is a little lathargic. We have been giving him brewers yeast.

How old is he? Why are you giving him the brewers yeast and did this start after you started it?

Reply to Joni's Post: He is 7 years old. He has been taking brewers yeast for about 2 yrs for a dry skin condition and it has helped him. It has not made him sick before.

OK So he is 7 years old and is having diarrhea with vomiting and lethargy. Has he been out in the heat and if so how hot has it been there? Do you see any blood in his stool? How long has he been doing this?

Reply to Joni's Post: NO blood. We live in Southern Calif. It has not been very hot, around 85 degrees and he has plenty of water. He is kept mostly indoors. He has been doing this for 2 days.

That is good that there is not blood- then it most likely is not HGE. It may be Pancreatitis. Does he even get any pork as this can be a major cause of this.

Reply to Joni's Post: No Pork. He seems to be very thirsty. He has dry food.He does get some table scraps but we do not eat any pork. He got a couple small pieces of pizza crust last night, but nothing like that for a long time.

It may just be a virus though but he can get dehydrated pretty quickly spewing from both ends. I would withhold any food for the next 24 hours. Just give him water or Pedialyte but give very small quantities often so hopefully he will not overload and vomit. He can also lick ice cubes of water or Pedialyte. Has he had a fecal done to check for worms recently?
