basset hound with stomach problems
Sent to Dog Experts August 19 07:18 PM

Hello. I had my dog to the vet the other day. He had been vommitting for roughly a day and a half and couldn't keep water down. They wanted to hospitalize him for a couple of days. Due to a recent job change, we couldn't afford the couple of thousand dollar bill that would have insued. We did agree to an xray of the stomach. It showed that the stomach was very distended with air. However, there was no signs of obstruction in either the tomach or bowel. The vet then mentioned it could be pancreatitis. She did give a couple of injectections and told us to do a rice, boiled chicken/hamburger diet very slowly after the first 24 hours if he was able to keep water down. Well, he has been doing very well with eating and keeping food and water down. He however, has not had a bowel movement since I think maybe Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. Is there anything I can do to get things moving in the intestine or should I just wait and see? Should I be concerned? I need advice desparately. He is a 3 yr old Basset Hound.40lbs, he is not overweight and is very very active for a basset.
