My minature schnauzer (18 lbs, 4 years ol

Sent to Dog Experts August 30 09:28 PM

My minature schnauzer (18 lbs, 4 years old) drank some baby oil about 1:00 pm. At 6:30 he wentn ioutn and had a big stool that was normal. But his behaviour immediately before was anxious and his immediate area near his anus was oily. About 1and 1/2 hours later I found out what was the problem, because he brought the empty bottle to me .He is a bit un comfortable and is "leaking" odoreous oilly substance that is very slightly stained yellow. He ate normally and urinated earlier. I believe that he got in the cabinet, chewed off the cap and spilled the baby oil and licked it up. It was a large bottle but only 1/4th full

Reply to Theresa's Post: 1. Stop and Shop Brand...ingredients mineral oil and fragrence

2. He ate last night and had a BM and he just ate this am at 7:00,m he urinated normally but did not have a BM which is usual for him.

3. He has had no vomiting that I can tell. I have a relatively big house and maybe I didn't see it. There is a spot on a window seat, but not discernable and looks like dried liquid

4. He slept well and ran around like normal this am. Even chased a deer. Seems perky enough, ate well and dosen't seem any different than usual.

Lets just say your boy is well cleaned out. We use the main ingredient in baby oil (mineral oil) to help resolve constipation issues and though he had a large amount this is the reason for the bowel movements you were seeing yesterday as well as the drainage as it can create diarrhea in large amounts. It looks like from your description your boy is going to be just fine. It may take a while for his stools to become solid again and my guess his bm's shall resume tonight. Basically, everything was cleaned out after the mineral oil ingestion.

Let me know if you have further questions.

I would keep the baby oil up in the future since it seems he likes the taste. The bigger concern is vomiting and aspirating the oil which doesn't appear to have happened.

Thank you

Theresa
