small Bufo frog and a Jack Russell

Sent to Dog Experts September 06 09:05 PM

I'm not sure if my dog got a baby bufo frog? He is acting fine now. It's been 20 min so if he swallowed a small bufo (about 1" big) how long before he will start to get sick.

He would more than likely be drooling heavily. They usually grab them and the frog will excrete the poison which usually makes the dog drop it but does make them salivate heavily. I would watch him closely and should he start vomiting and acting listless then a vet visit ASAP is a good idea but I would assume he didn't actually get hold of the frog as you suspected.

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: He did touch it and he did drewl a small ammount and we washed his mouth out with water. We are use to this because he is a frog hunter. He is not drewling now and he is acting fine. I was just worried he actually swallowed it. He is not drewling or anything but if he did swallow it how long before he would be sick?? He has never swallowed one before I just thought because it was so small and I could not find it that he might have.

P.S. I love this service>>>>

He would continue to drool more than likely. Its good that you washed out his mouth though. I would watch him closely and if he at all starts acting off or depressed then take him in. They will usually not swallow them though because of the taste.
