I have a full bread Chocolate Lab who was in head around July 8th, she hooked several times with our male Chocolate Lab about the middle of July. Her gerth has doubled in size and her teets are large and seem to be getting bigger. Today she has a slight discharge starting from her delivery area. How much longer do you think until the puppies are born?

Hello and thanks for researching this important question!

The average canine pregnancy lasts from 58-64 days.

You do have some time to go.

Begin taking this girl's temperature (rectally) three times daily from now on...her temperature will drop dramatically from 100-101F degrees to around 98-99F when she is 24 hours away from hard labor.

***Your veterinarian can take an xray of her abdomen. This will 100% confirm the pregnancy and will let you know how many puppies to expect...it is wise to have a vet's office aware of the impending births, in case you need on-the-spot assistance. Just as in people, many births go very quickly and very well, but some have serious problems that require medical help.***
