Pug Breed Question
Sent to Dog Experts February 09 11:51 AM

About three days ago, my pug started acting like he was sick. He is normally very active. For example, he only lays on the couch with his head down and seems to be ubable too jump up. We took him to the vet yesterday and they think that he may have either pulled something or he has lyme desease. They tested him and it came up negative. So we took him home but all he did was mope and he even vomitted up his dinner. After he vomited I picked him up and placed him on the couch and he just fell asleep for the rest of the night. Now this morning my husband called and said that when he put him out all he did was mope in the yard and then immediatly layed down. I am getting worried that maybe he ate some poison or something so we are taking him back to the vet tonight. Do you have any suggestion for me to ask the vet? I think that maybe he needs xrays or something.

You are right to be concerned. Your veterinarian may want to perform a CBC and chemistry blood work to be certain there is no infection, organ disease, etc. They may also want to take xrays to determine if a disc in the neck or back has slipped. Pugs also get a condition called pug encephalitis which may also need to be ruled out.
