Dr. Debbie:Hello.
Dr. Debbie:Let me ask a few questions about your puppy.
Dr. Debbie:Has your chihuahua had her first vaccinations yet?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):is this serious and is there something i can do right away
Dr. Debbie:-
Dr. Debbie:It could be - but I need to find out some information first
Dr. Debbie:Has she had vaccinations?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):not sure i just receive the puppy
Dr. Debbie:-
Dr. Debbie:Do you know if she has been given dewormer?
Dr. Debbie:Did the breeder give you a paper you can look on there and check?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):how soon do i need to get her a vaccinations shot
Dr. Debbie:-
Dr. Debbie:She should have them at 6, 9, and 12 weeks.
Dr. Debbie:6 weeks is sort of early for a chihuahua to go to a new home
Dr. Debbie:Has she had a bowel movement today?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):did not receive any paper but she did mention that she had worm the puppy
Dr. Debbie:-
Dr. Debbie:Okay.
Dr. Debbie:What about any bowel movement today?
Dr. Debbie:If she had one, was it normal or diarrhea?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):she had only one bowel movement but she will not eat she urin a few times but thats about it
Dr. Debbie:-
Customer (name blocked for privacy):normal
Dr. Debbie:Parvovirus would be the major concern
Dr. Debbie:and that exhibits with vomiting and diarrhea and refusal to eat.
Dr. Debbie:This can be deadly so if you see any diarrhea I would get to the vet ASAP and let them test her for parvovirus
Dr. Debbie:I would take her to the vet first thing in the morning irregardless
Dr. Debbie:but if she becomes more listless tonight or vomits again, or has diarrhea, I would take her to an emergency clinic tonight.
Customer (name blocked for privacy):what do you think it could be
Dr. Debbie:I would keep her warm tonight by wrapping her up
Dr. Debbie:and I would go ahead and get some karo syrup and rub that on her gums - just massage it on there incase she has low blood glucose which is common in chihuahuas of that age. I think she could have either hypoglycemia or parvovirus.
Dr. Debbie:If it is hypoglycemia, the karo syrup will make her feel better in about 30 - 60 minutes.
