My scottie puppy (15 weeks and 8 lbs.)has had all of her shots. Her last shot(including rabies) was at 14 weeks. She has become withdrawn and less playful (her sister is 10 lbs. and active. I just discovered a lump on her side about one inch forward of her hip. Her main change has been in her behavior. Appetite is good, but less active. She looks/acts depressed. She was just groomed for the first time on 10/29/05. The lump is not sensitive, howevershe does stop and scratch in the general area. Coat and skin look normal. Any ideas?

Yes, the change did start after the last shots and the injection was in that general area. I did wonder if it could have been a reaction to the rabies shot, since that was not included in the initial shots. The lump is the size of a marble.

I appreciated your quick response and am willing to pay additional if necessary. All four of my scotties are seen by the vet on a regular basis and I was planning on taking off work tomorrow to see the vet. I am most concerned as to whether I should call this evening for an emergency vet appointment. Unfortunately, the Vet on call is not familiar with my girls.

I don't think you need to have her seen tonight. It's not uncommon for pups to have a reaction to vaccinations including slight depression, soreness, and a lump where the vaccine was injected. A call to your vet in the morning should be fine. In the future they may want to give her rabies shot a few weeks separate from her distemper/parvo so she won't be overwhelmed by the vaccines.
