I was doing some concrete work with a hammer drill, and our small Westie jumped at the drill, and "burned his tongue"   He didn''t bleed very much, and we felt that the tongue regenerates quickly so we didn''t take him to a vet immediately.   He''s been very lethargic over the last two days, and we are wondering what to do.

Hello,

Yes, I would definitely have him seen by a vet, today, to have his tongue evaluated; it's probably bothering him, so he's not eating properly, hence, his lethargy. The vet will most likely prescribe an antibiotic and pain medication, to help him feel better.

If he normally eats dry food, you can offer some premium canned food, with some water added, to make it easier for him to eat until his tongue is completely healed.

I hope he's feeling better very soon, and of course, next time you're working with a power tool, you'll first put the dog in a separate area.
