My Basset hound has a raspy sound when she breathes and no longer has the beautiful howl that she used to have. This started after I had her teeth cleaned. I am concerned that something happened to her respriatory systme during the procedure. Should I be concerned?

Ah....

I think she still may have a bit of a sore throat from the anesthetic tube. This goes downd the windpipe and can cause coughing and soreness. It usually lasts just a few days, however, I have seen it last longer, especially when the dog has a small infection underlying. If her teeth were pretty bad to start with, then this could be your answer.

I would take her to the vet where you had the cleaning, and ask them to take a look at her throat tissues. She may need a course of antibiotics to clear this up.

The good news is that you had her teeth done. Dental disease can cause horrid cardiac disease and kidney problems. So while she may be a little raspy, she is very healthy because you cared enough to be wonderful owner.

I hope this helps
