this is my second question about riley.more detail this time.riley my irish setter had bone cancer in oct 07.his rt.rear leg was removed at this time.he had three rounds of chemo.since that time he has done very well.since my sister's dog has the same thing going on with soft stool with the last of it mucus and dripping .riley wil drink water normal amounts,and will eat . but not anything raw lean meat about two cups. he is very alert,but visably tired where he can,t walk very far without laying down.his stool is a bowl movement not watery diarrhea.more a really soft movement.after eating he looks comfortable and sleeps well. he is burpinng in the morning on an empty stomach.a little yogurt seems to calm this i also gave him a pepcid. then later on he will eat.lying on his back he belly fills hard .his gas smells foul and a burp in my face smelled like worms roting.tomorrow in plan to take a stool sample to a vet to check,as per your first answer sugested.please give your expertopinion

Thank you for the additional information. Given your dog's history of health problems, he really does need to be seen. I still think it is likely to be parasites or a protozoan infection, especially if another dog he has contact with has similar symptoms. Metronidazole is frequently prescribed for giardia (protozoan infection) which will cause those symptoms.   It helps a dog fight the infection until the dog's own immune system does the job. If your dog has a lowered immune system it might take a longer course of antibiotics to help clear the infection as well. You might want to ask the vet about an immune system booster. Since organ failure can also cause foul breath, you will also want to have blood test done to ensure that there is no additional problems as well.

I would first get the fecal sample done and if that is clear, have Riley seen by your vet for bloodwork and a physical exam..
