My 8 month lab/golden retriever seems to be breathing
Sent to Dog Experts November 17 04:40 PM

My 8 month lab/golden retriever seems to be breathing heavy quite often. He has always done this, but now since the weather has cooled it seems odd that he is constantly doing this and he seems to be doing it more in the evening. Please advise if you think he should get checked out, or if this is just normal for a dog.

No this is not normal and something that you need to have checked out, heartworms for one causes a symptom of heavy breathing and this can cause congestive heart failure if not treated accordingly. It can also be a sign of respiratory distress so I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If he has always done this and now it has increased you need to determine the underlying illness behind it as increased symptoms is a sign of a worsening of the condition.

Relist: I still need help.
I just spoke with my vet who advised me I really shouldn't be concerned. He said they will do the heartworm test in 4 more months, and if I could videotape it, that would be beneficial, but other than that he thinks everything is fine. Do you think I should seek a second opinion?
