My 1yr old Standard Poodle has vomited twice. In the vomit is bright red colored blood that looks like coffee grounds. I brought her to the vet and they did blood work. It was detected that she had abnormal lymphocytes. We are rechecking her blood in a week as we also think she is battling a respritory infection. The concern for cancer is present. Is it possible for the abnormality of the cells to be caused by the respritory infection? She acts like a very healthy puppy otherwise. She is full of energy and eats well. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Yes. ANY kind of infection can change blood cell counts.

If you are seeing vomit that looks like coffee grounds, I would be more concerned about an intestinal obstruction. Did the vet rule this out?

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: yes they did x-rays and didn't detect anything. She has vomited once two weeks ago and once the day before yesterday.

I would not jump immediately to cancer.
