My 7 1/2 week old Cairn Terrier seems to have a distended belly. He's eating, drinking, peeing and pooping. He's been wormed. He's playing. Could anything else cause this, or is he just fat, and I'm worrying too much?

Optional Information:
Age: <1; Male; Breed: Cairn Terrier

Already Tried:
Nothing, since he seems to be eating and drinking fine.

I have had him for a week. The breeder wormed him, and I have been checking his stools, haven't seen any worms. His next vet appointment is in a week and a half. But I have changed his puppy food, mixing in the food that the breeder gave him. Could that be part of the problem?

Yes, the food change could give him a little extra gas.

The dewormer that the breeder is allowed to buy is not as strong as the stuff we can purchase. Plus, it often takes multiple dewormings to get rid of all the worms.

Puppies with worms often have mildly bloated bellies.

After they eat their bellies look fairly large to me as well.

As long as he is eating, drinking, playing, and happy I would not worry.

If his belly got big and firm, and he had a hard time breathing, or was vomiting, then I would be worried.

If I were you, I would try to get a vet appointment sooner and then you would not have to worry.
